At the initiative some of our parishioners, and by their generosity, our adult chancel choir is wearing some very handsome robes.  These cowl-styled, off-white choir robes are based on the monastic cuculla worn by the monks or nuns in their recitation of the Divine Office.  Born out of the Benedictine tradition, these hooded gowns with their full, long sleeves are the ancestors of later academic gowns and judicial robes. The look is great – somewhere between “monastic” and “angel.” And how appropriate is that, as the parish choir developed out of monasticism and is often linked to the choirs of angels in heaven. The Slabbinck Company that made our choir robes was founded over a century ago in the highly cultured town of Bruges, Belgium.  We thank those who have contributed towards this project, and made it all possible.  Now our choir looks as good as it sounds!
